Would you refinish a perfectly good blued Rough Rider just to do it and make it a little different?
Just kicking around an idea for way later in the future. Like maybe summer.

If I wanted something different Id go for it! You can get a couple of good home gun finishes these days that are hard and chemical resistant. I have used Dura Coat, If you are good with a spray can or an airbrush you can make your own gun finishes that are factory looking. And you can air cure or oven cure your project. Air curing takes about two weeks, oven curing one day. I'm not very patient, so I oven cured. There are others out there, But Dura Coat is what I have used. DR

Agree with DR. It's not like these are $500+ guns.

I found a place that will Nickle plate or Chrome plate it at an acceptable price but am not sure I want to go that route. Does anyone know of a chemical that can fake case harden the zinc-alloy frame?

Here's a guy who did a faux case hardened look on his Henry. The receiver cover on the Henry is aluminum/zinc alloy similar to the alloy frames on the Heritages: link

That'a perfect! Now I don't have to worry about damaging the frame by heating it with a butane torch to get a fake finish. I even have an unopened bottle of cold blue just sitting in the closet too!
