I've been gifted an old delapidated 4.75 inch R.R that I want to repair myself. Two questions. If I replace the main spring on the backstrap will this increase the tension on the hammer causing a better strike? Two. I want to replace the firing pin. I cannot find any videos for this. Anyone have insructions. More questions to come! Don

Hang in there, Don - someone should be along shortly with help if this doesn't do it.
Found these on youtube:
Rough Rider Repair

I'd gamble that changing the mainspring would help.

Mine had been dry fired against a cylinder that did not fit the gun. it peened the firing pin till it would only fire every time on about three of the cylinders. I had to replace both the FP and the center pin to get it right. I would replace the main spring first and if that fixes your gun I'd leave it there. If you are still having missfire problems, measure how much end travel your cylinder has. If its more than about 3 to 5 thousands you can shim the front of the cylinder to push it back toward the FP. Good Luck. let me know if you need any used parts. I have a few laying around. DR
