Hi everyone, new guy here. I have a rekindled interest in cowboy guns. So I dug out my old heritage to see what it would take to fix it. I've had it at least two years and its been sitting idle for about one year or more. The cylinder hand was not engaging the cylinder properly.
I just got up the nerve to open her up and I found there is a small spring attached to the cylinder hand that was broken. There is also signs of wear on the tip of the cylinder hand.
So, my question is, if I order a new cylinder hand (part#5.1) will the little flat spring that is attached come with it?
One more Q. The gun originally came with just the 22lr cylinder when purchased new. Can I also order the 22mag cyl for it? I might as well get my monies worth on the shipping charges.

By Ulmus Feb 15, 2010#2 It looks like it should come with it, but I'd add a note to Heritage saying that you need that spring as well if it does come seperately. Just to make sure. As for the magnum cylinder. YES you can order one for your revolver. It's roughly $30.00. They have three magnum cylinder choices available based on age of the gun and how picky you sre on finish. (The older serial numbered guns and the blemished finished one cost less.) Here's the link to their unblemished cylinder. www.heritagemfg.com/site/product.cfm?id=349You'll see that under the finish style, there is a spot for the serial number. It should tell you if you can use the newer mag cylinder or need the older model. (I have no clue what the difference is.) Hope this helps. Good luck.

Feb 17, 2010#7 Well, I just ordered the cylinder hand. The hand cost $12.00+6.00 for shipping for a total of $18. She was very nice but their was no offer of free parts or shipping. I priced the mag cylinder and its $29.95 and she said it would raise the shipping a bit so I passed for now. I still dont think this part should have worn out but I understand these guns are built to a price point. Its only had about 500 low powered rounds through it and thats why I bought it. BTW: the spring comes with the hand.

Feb 17, 2010#8 Well I can tell you that my Heritage has had MANY more rounds through it than that and it's still going strong. :wink1: Not too mention all of the mag rounds that have pushed their way through it too. :wink1:
So I wouldn't say it's due to the price point of the gun so much as it falls in the catagory of all mechanical devices will break at some point. :dunno:

Feb 19, 2010#9 the heritage just like the original colt use leaf springs. they are prone to breakage. I wouldnt think of going out of town to a shoot without a complete set of replacements. that was rugers big improvement , coil springs. that improvement alone has made the ruger co. DR

Feb 19, 2010#10 I ordered the part on tues morning and she said it should go out on wed. I think it said on their website they ship 1st class so I'm hoping for Sat delivery but it might be Mon. Looking forward to getting it working. It was fun in the back yard with CB ammo.
Do their big bore revolvers use leaf springs?

Feb 22, 2010#13 Parts Arrived!!!! Ordered on 2/16, postmarked 2/18, arrived on 2/22 and actual postage was $1.22  I had them installed in about five minutes (getting pretty good at that). She's cycling great. The cylinder turns a little stiffer than I remember so maybe it just had a bad spring from the factory. Hopefully this one will be better. I havnt had her out yet but I'm sure it will be fine sense everything still locks up good.

Mar 19, 2010#17 This is not uncommon. I have 2 HRR 22's and 1 of them had the cylinder hand spring break also. I ordered the cylinder hand (the spring does come attached as said already) and also purchased a blemished Mag cylinder for it. Im not sure how many rounds have been thru this revolver as I purchased it used and non working. After replacing the cylinder hand as well as the firing pin she cycles like a dream. However, I still experience some light strikes (fail to fire) from time to time so Im thinking I may need to order some cylinder shims now.
Glad you got yours back together
