Some how I broke the spring on my transfer bar. (The thing flops back and forth like a politician) The part costs 2 bucks, but a decent set of screwdrivers will run about $30.
While the economics of it make sense, I have to wonder if it is wise to let me loose with these tools. This could be dangerous.

Aug 02, 2012#3 With practice on the small bore, why not work on the large bore?
Be good for you...calming and relaxing after a rough day. Works wonders for me.

By Ulmus Aug 02, 2012#4 Thanks! With your encouragement and my wife's, I'm gonna do it. Brownells has a COLT screwdriver set for $32. Is that a good price or is there a place that sells them for less? Aug 03, 2012#5 Oops. I meant Midway. Here's what I ordered. The SAA screwdriver set.

Aug 04, 2012#6 I bought a set from Gander Mountain a few years back, local store, not online. I don't see it listed any more on the website nor carried at the store. It has 7 different sizes, and I think I only use 3 of the drivers.
Have fun!

By whichfinger Aug 04, 2012#7 Gunsmithing screwdrivers should be hollow ground, thusly: Pic was borrowed from the Foster Products site. www.forsterproducts.com/store.asp?pid=24836A set of Forsters is kind of spendy, but there are others on the market. Brownell's sells hollow ground screwdrivers, www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=509/ ... ERS-trade- but they're just as expensive. They also carry Magna-Tip bits, which fit in a standard hex driver. www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=501/ ... P-reg-BITS I use a set of hex bits similar to the Winchester set China Mart carries. www.walmart.com/ip/Winchester-Sc ... s/14560066 Price is 11 bucks. I looked at the Grace set at Midway and they are hollow ground, so you're good to go. Yeah, kinda windy, but I didn't want all that googling to go to waste. :cool1:

Aug 09, 2012#11 I guess it's true that you learn something new every day. I never knew there was such a thing as a "gunsmith screwdriver." Good to know . . .
