I sent an e mail to Heritage Arms asking if they could take my 4.75" Rough Rider and install the rear adjustable and front f/o sight on it like my 6 1/2" one has. First got a reply telling me to ensure gun is not loaded and properly packaged and include ser number on my request. I sent an e mail back inquiring what the cost would be. Received a reply, Oh sorry we do not do custom work but you can purchase the items and have a machine shop do it......but will void your warranty if you do. I do not see any real difficulty in accomplishing my request at the repair facility of Heritage, but once again....customer service is not their strong suit.

I dunno, I kinda doubt Ruger would run a Wrangler through their custom shop either. I suspect it would cost as much to alter the RR as it would to buy a new one with the sights already installed, and then you'd have two guns.

I guess I am simplifying things as far as the "extra" work this would require from Heritage to make the shorter barrel with the adj/f/o sights. The 6 1/2" barrel revolver uses the same size frame as the 4.75" does. As far as the front sight...just take the smaller barrel and install the fiber optic sight instead of the blade sight...there ya go. Seems like they could run a few thousand a day and they would sell no problem.

Yeah, but then you wouldn't have two guns. Er ... or did I misread that. Yeah, you meant they should market a different assembly of parts, not modify your existing gun, eh? Never mind then.

Well actually I guess I was combining the two ideas. I wanted a 4.75" barrel Rough Rider like I have the 6 1/2" with the adj rear and the F/O front. They said they do not do custom work, so I am saying why can they not just manufacture some shorter barrel Rough Rider revolvers with those sights installed on them from the factory and sell them to the public. Better idea than that idiotic pretend rifle they came out with.

Got it. Maybe it's the long held and valid idea that longer barrels are more accurate and can benefit more from better sights. Seems dumb, though. Why wouldn't a short barrel also do better with more accurate sights? Or maybe it's because Taurus marketing is nothing but a monkey with a dynamite detonator. Your idea is not without merit.

You wrote..... Why wouldn't a short barrel also do better with more accurate sights? I say, exactly!!! I install adjustable Fiber optic sights on all my firearms to assist these old eyes in better target acquisition....5" or 3" barrel length. I have expressed this idea on Heritage FB sites, on Rough Rider FB site and on my FB home page. There is support of the idea and I think I am correct in thinking it would sell very well. I will say however support does not seem to be as accepted by Ruger Wrangler owners....most hate the F/O sights on a S/A revolver....just not realistic is the common reply. A Creakote coating with a cheap plastic grip made in the 21st century revolver is not realistic to begin with if you ask me. Although I have to admit I like mine a lot!

There's another issue that affects us in codgerhood. It's every bit as serious as failing eyesight and no amount of gunsight modifications will alleviate it. When I was a pup I could hold the sights steady on the target for lengthy periods. Now it's like I'm shooting at a moving target and I have to time my trigger pull to coincide with the sights passing through that target.

Yep....miss the competition days and the reality that those days are long gone. Not only eye sight...back and knee problems limit the range time except for the sitting and doing the shooting from a rest thing now. Medically I have had more than my share of serious problems, but at least I am alive and still can go to the range...have to be thankful for that at least.
