Just for fun, what firearm would you buy with your $1,200 stimulus check? Since it's for fun, you can throw in an extra $100 but that's it.
There's no restriction on what type, style, action, anything. Let your imagination run wild!

I'm looking for a new Coyote gun. I'm thinking Savage Axis in 223, [about $400]. A Vortex Scope, [about $300]. And a few accessories [another $200]. The rest I'd probably waste! DR

I can actually say I do not have any new firearms in mind to buy with the stimulus money.......at this time. Ammo stock pile is sufficient. No new accessories like holsters or sights needed. Been thinking about using the stand down time to build a Poly80 custom Glock 19, but as of yet have not bought the lower kit and most places are now sold out.

Those are great ideas. My choice depends on how much I like my shoulder and collar bone. I'm thinking either a Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70 or a Taylors and Co. 1892 Carbine with 20 inch barrel in .357.
Either one would fit my set perfectly.

Either one would fit my set perfectly. I bought one of the early Guide Guns. No one I know wanted to shoot it more than once! I could not wait to trade that one off! The Combination of Short barrel, Light weight, and 45-70, made it a wicked kicker! A few years later Marlin updated it. they made it a pound heavier, ported it, and added a mercury recoil reducer to the stock. I shot a friends gun a couple of times before I ordered mine. The improvements made a lot of difference! I still don't like the 500 grain loads through it. But I can shoot the 405 gr and the 325 gr Leverevolution ammo pretty well. The porting made the most difference. As a teen I had shot a marlin with a 26" octagon barrel enough that I never thought the Guide Gun would kick like that! The lever gun I shoot the most is a Marlin in 45 Colt. I can load it up to the lower end of 45-70 with 325 gr bullets going 1500 fps. Or down to 160 gr plinking ammo that recoils like a 22 mag. I would bet that I would like the 357 just as well. Good Luck DR

I'm with DR. The .357 would be a lot more fun to shoot, and it's no wimp round either. Out of my Marlin 1894C, 158-grain JSPs hit a little over 1900 fps. Not ideal for mule deer, but those Florida deer? Pffft.

I gotta admit I'm leaning towards the .357. The guide gun is cool but it reminds me of my stepson's Remington 700 in 300 Mag. He wanted a "sniper gun" for the range. After shooting half a box of ammo through it, he sold it. I think that would be my results with the Guide Gun.

There's plenty of choices that will take down anything east of the Mississippi that aren't nearly as punishing as the 45-70. Doug Wesson (google him) took every big game animal in the lower 48, including mule deer and elk, with a .357 Magnum handgun, all but one with a single shot (an antelope, of all things, needed a second dose). And unless you're hand loading, there are no "plinking" rounds in 45-70.

I heard he also went up to Alaska and hunted seal for the Inuits to see how well the round worked. Plus I already have a revolver in that round so it helps.

I wasn't the only one that thought so! The second version still is recoil happy! But not like the first one! I have a 45 Colt derringer that is painful to shoot too. But it's kind of fun ! DR

Plus I don't think I'm going to Alaska anytime soon
