Have you priced out building a model lately?
$30-$40 for the kit itself $5 for the main spray paint $15-$20 for all the little bottles of paint and brushes $7-$10 for glue and sandpaper
Total price: $57-$75 after all is said and done.
You know, I think it's cheaper to refinish a gun!

Yeah, I used to have quite a collection of WWII aircraft in 1:48. (Sadly, they were all lost in the same boat accident that took my guns.) I've toyed with the idea a few times, but looking at current prices always hurries me to the nearest exit. For what they're asking now for a kit, it should come already assembled and painted.

My last model was of the USS Ticonderoga CV-14 (the first aircraft carrier I was aboard) found it a few years after I retired in 1988. Have not even looked at any since then, I am sure there are as you show a lot more expensive than when I bought this one.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If it doesn't have high sentimental or historicalvalue, it's just not buying anymore.
